A spreadsheet works as long as the person who built it is around to explain it. Stortrace keeps the same records in a form the whole team can use.
What a spreadsheet leaves out
Many operators run on a spreadsheet, a whiteboard and something a founder built over a weekend. It usually fits the business closely, because the people who run the business built it.
A spreadsheet only shows how things stand now. When a cell is overwritten, the old value is gone, so nobody can say where a box was last March or who moved it.
Stortrace records each box as it is scanned, with who scanned it, where and on which job. Your customers, prices and bin labels come across as they are, so the business still works the way you set it up.
What transfers
- Your customer list, from a CSV.
- Your item and box list, with whatever descriptions you have written.
- Bin labels exactly as they are painted on the racking.
- Your prices, including the ones that only apply to two customers.
- What each customer owes on the day you switch.
What changes
- Each location comes from a scan, and the spreadsheet is no longer the record.
- Collections and returns are booked as orders, and each visit becomes a job for a driver.
- Empty boxes at customers' addresses are counted, so you know how many you have left to sell.
- At month end, invoices are calculated from what was in storage.

You send an export and we map it against Stortrace. If you would be better off staying where you are, we tell you at this point and before you have paid anything.

We load your customers, items, locations and prices, and check the totals against your old system until they agree.

Train
Your drivers learn to scan items, and your office staff train on your own data.

Run both
Your old system keeps running until Stortrace has produced a month of invoices that match it.
